Describe your expertise: |
Since 2009, my needs assessments have been instrumental in winning more than $4.6 million for accredited continuing education, mostly in oncology. My consulting clients are mostly private med-ed companies. Funding has come from major pharmaceutical companies such as Boehringer-Ingelheim, Celgene, Genentech, GlaxoSmithKline, Janssen Scientific, Pfizer, Takeda, and many others.
Some topics of recently funded educational grants include aggressive lymphomas, biosimilars, HR+/HER2- breast cancer, new hematology drugs, new solid tumor drugs especially precision targeted agents and immune checkpoint inhibitors, BCMA-targeted agents in multiple myeloma, and early diagnosis in multiple myeloma.
I have written several needs assessment related to COVID-19, including COVID-19 in immuno-compromised rheumatology patients; COVID-19 in immuno-compromised IBD patients; and COVID-19 in patients with multiple sclerosis.
Other recent assignments include oncology biomarkers, new oncology drugs, anti-TNF biosimilars in IBD, anti-VEGF biosimilars in ophthalmology, maintenance therapy in acute myeloid leukemia, recent advances in chronic lymphocytic leukemia, EGFR-targeted agents in non-small cell lung cancer, graft-versus-host disease, and advances in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
In addition to writing NAs, I also work with faculty to develop various types of educational materials including slide decks, online manuscripts, interactive monographs, case studies, test questions, posters, and outcome reports. |
Brief biography: |
I am a skilled and experienced medical writer who specializes in continuing education for the health professions. I am also a lifelong learner, having earned a bachelor's degree in liberal arts from Harvard in 1978, a master's degree in journalism in 1992, and a master's degree in biology in 2018. As a newspaper reporter I won awards for public service and investigative projects. I transitioned into medical writing with help from the American Medical Writers Association, of which I remain an active member. I earned permanent certification as a board-certified editor in the life sciences (ELS) in 2008. I earned the CHCP credential in 2011 and am re-certified through 2021.
Writing needs assessments (NAs) forms the foundation of my consulting practice. I started writing NAs in 2008 for a med-ed company that specialized in oncology. My background in oncology deepened during a 15-month sojourn in the continuing education department of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network.
Since 2014, I have been working with co-investigators and consultants to conduct survey research on best practices for writing NAs. You may have seen our 3 posters at the most recent Alliance meeting in San Francisco. We also published an article in the Almanac. |
