My goal is to serve patients, providers, and health care organizations by engaging health care professionals in addressing population care gaps. I help health care delivery systems become learning organizations by enhancing the connection between health professions education, quality and practice improvement, systems science, and health care outcomes. I have over 25 years experience in CPD and quality improvement, with additional experience in health services research and Board Certification/Maintenance of Certification. A board certified Family Physician (participating in MOC) I have additional experience in physician leadership. |
| Brief biography: |
I am Professor of Family Medicine at the University of Colorado Anschutz School of Medicine; Senior advisor to the President, American Board of Family Medicine; and an advisor and coach in Health Professions Education, Quality Improvement and CPD.
I spent 27 years with Kaiser Permanente in roles including Director of Medical Education for the Colorado Region and the (national) Permanente Federation; researcher in the KP Colorado Institute of Health Research; guideline development, and Chair of Family Medicine in Kaiser Colorado. From 2014-2018 I was Senior Vice-President, American Board of Medical Specialties Research and Education Foundation, and Executive Director of the ABMS Multi-Specialty Portfolio Approval Program.
I am a past member and chair of the ABFM Board of Directors, a past Director of the ACCME, past chair of the AAMC Group on Educational Affairs section on Continuing Education and Improvement, and currently serve on the AAMC Integrating Quality Initiative steering committee. I have spoken and am widely published in areas including CME/CPD, QI/practice improvement, mental health, and evidence-based medicine.
I received my M.D. from Rutgers Medical School in 1985 and completed Family Medicine Residency and chief residency at JFK Medical Center, Edison, NJ, in 1988. I am Board Certified and Maintaining Certification with the ABFM. I am a fellow of the AAFP, the ACEHP, and SACME, and the recipient of the 2018 SACME Distinguished Service in CME Award. |
