Describe your expertise: Heather J. Ranels, CHCP, FACEHP has over 20 years of expertise in healthcare education providing grant writing, program and activity management, accreditation compliance and processes, and online learning strategies. She is passionate and specializes in streamline process improvement, learner engagement and connecting education with technologic solutions. She believes education should be innovative, using active learning channels to increase understanding and engagement. As an analytical person, she loves to think strategically and keeps the larger scope in mind. She is continually looking for ways to improve and curate content into a one stop shop for the members. Solutions are always learner-centric, but mindful of the accreditation requirements as well as administrative burden as well.
Brief biography: Ms. Ranels most recent roles were as the Director of Education for both the MPL Association and for the American Association of Psychiatric Pharmacist. During her tenure at both she leveraged instructional design and adult learning theories to expand their online learning curriculums and select and implement the first learning management system for each. In each case the LMS was aligned with their respective strategic goals and integrated into the overall program to serve as a content hub for all learning. For the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO), Ms. Ranels served as the Assistant Director of Digital Innovation. During her six-year tenure with ASTRO, Heather was responsible for identifying and implementing technological solutions to deliver quality interactive educational activities, including managing all online and hybrid learning programs. While at ASTRO she secured Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) accreditation with commendation for the program. Heather worked closely with both the Education Committee and the Education Council to strategically plan for initiatives that aligned with strategic goals and met member’s needs. She also worked closely with the American Board or Radiology to provide education programming to meet initial certification and maintenance of certification. Ms. Ranels was also the Program Manager for the National Osteoporosis Foundation where she managed and evaluated all educational and scientific activities including live conferences, webinar series and online education library. Preceding her work at NOF she was a medical education grant writer and medical writer for the Southern Medical Association (SMA). At SMA she established activity and program evaluation tools to measure knowledge, competence, and changes to practice behavior. In each of her positions she has been instrumental in securing ACCME accreditation with commendation along with ANCC accreditation while NOF. Ms. Ranels is an active member of the Alliance for Continuing Education Health Professionals (ACEHP) becoming Certified Healthcare CPD Professional (CHCP) in 2018. She has been invited and lectured on numerous topics including learner engagement, learning effectiveness, program management and education technology for both the ACEHP and the ACCME. She currently volunteers for the ACEHP as the Vice Chair of the Almanac Editorial Board.
